The Role of Legal Sociology in Realizing Social

Abstract

Legal sociology examines the reciprocal relationship between law and society, recognizing that law functions not only as a set of written rules but also as an instrument for establishing social order. However, the effectiveness of law depends not merely on its normative validity but also on its ability to respond to social conditions, cultural values, and the level of legal awareness within society. This article aimed to analyze the role of legal sociology in understanding legal effectiveness, increasing public legal awareness, and bridging state law with the living law embedded in society. The study employed a normative legal approach supported by sociological analysis through the examination of legal norms and their relationship with social realities. The analysis showed that social order was more likely to be achieved when laws were formulated and enforced by considering prevailing social conditions, cultural values, and the level of legal awareness of the community. The findings also indicated that legal sociology provided an important analytical framework for understanding the gap between normative legal provisions and their implementation in social life. Thus, legal sociology plays a significant role in ensuring that law is not only formally valid but also socially effective. The study contributes to a broader understanding of law as a social institution and highlights the importance of integrating sociological considerations into legal formulation and enforcement to strengthen social order.
